AS9102 Form 3 → Excel · runs in your browser
Turn AS9102 Form 3 into Excel
Drop in an AS9102 Form 3 (FAI Characteristic Accountability) document and get a 15-column spreadsheet back. Characteristic number, nominal, tolerances, actual value, pass/fail, gage ID — with the source file and page recorded on every row.
- Files never leave your device. Parsing runs in JavaScript inside your browser. No upload, no account.
- Fifteen AS9102 columns, pre-configured. You never name a column or draw a template box.
- No pass/fail calculation. The determination is copied from your document, not recomputed.
- Real .xlsx output that opens in Excel, LibreOffice, Numbers and WPS.
Where did my file go?
Nowhere. This page has no backend. To confirm: open your browser’s developer tools, choose the Network tab, then drop in a Form 3. You will see no request carrying your document. That matters when the drawing or the dimensional data is ITAR- or EAR-controlled.

The Pass / Fail column copies what your document says — it is never calculated from the tolerance. Yellow cells are low-confidence; confirm them against the source.
What AS9102 Form 3 actually is
What is AS9102 Form 3?
AS9102 Form 3 is titled Characteristic Accountability. It is one of the three forms in a First Article Inspection (FAI) report defined by SAE AS9102. Form 3 lists every design characteristic of a part — balloon number, specification, tolerance, measured result, pass/fail determination, inspection method and gage ID. Form 1 is Part Number Accountability; Form 2 is Product Accountability for materials, specifications and special processes.
- AS9102
- The SAE standard Aerospace First Article Inspection Requirement. Invoked by AS9100-based quality systems and flowed down to suppliers by aerospace primes and tier-1s.
- FAI
- First Article Inspection — a planned, complete, independent and documented inspection and process verification confirming that a defined production process can produce a conforming part.
- FAIR
- First Article Inspection Report — the deliverable package. It includes AS9102 Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3.
- Characteristic
- A design feature with a stated requirement. On aerospace drawings each characteristic gets a balloon number that Form 3 uses to trace a measurement back to the drawing.
- Gage ID / gage R&R
- The identifier of the measuring equipment used. It links a measurement to calibration records and to the Measurement Systems Analysis study required by PPAP Element 8.
Why Form 3 gets retyped by hand
Manufacturing digitised how inspections are performed. What it largely did not digitise is what happens to the data after the inspection. A shop floor still produces several incompatible artefacts in one production cycle — a typed Form 3 exported from a QMS, a handwritten in-process check sheet, a supplier certificate attached by the receiving clerk — and all of them have to feed the same downstream columns.
So someone sits down and retypes measurements into a spreadsheet. The data entry is done twice: once on paper, once in Excel. On a part with 150 ballooned characteristics across six sample pieces, that is 900 cells transcribed by hand, before anyone has done a single minute of quality analysis.
The bottleneck was never the analysis. It was getting the numbers out of the document and into a table. See the full breakdown on the product page.
